Since the World is NOT going to End, shouldn't We get more involved in Our Local Civil Defense?
Like people who train to help after Natural Disasters? Since it takes days to move tons of supplies? Shouldn't Government help finance Localities to build Shelters/Bunkers, like in the early Nuclear Days?
With water, food, and supplies at strategic locations. So cities can get easier acces to them after a flood, tornado, hurricane, or earthquake. I won't mention volcanic eruptions!

Actually, I'm in the local militia. So we'll cover the rest of you, ok?
Oh, and we're very non-scary if you're not a threat to our homeland (or in my case - adopted homeland). Most of us are ex-military, reservists or current military. Herr Gropenfuhrer (my pet name for Schwarzenegger, our governor) actually has the phone number to call us all out in case of something truly horrific right in his rolodex. Governors in every state probably know how to contact the local militia.
