Washing wool is a tricky thing and your content will dictate your washing. When it comes to a coat..I would take the safe way and have it dry cleaned. As for wool sweaters..well, hand washing is best next to dry cleaning. Do not twist and wring out water..gently squeeze the water out. Place item in cold/cool water in sink that has a bit of laundry soap in it...gently squish the soapy water through the item for a couple of minutes..allow to sit..repeat..drain water while gently squeezing out any water...fill empty sink with clean cool/cold water...gently squeeze rinse water through the item till rinsed and drain water squeezing out excess water from item. Place wet item on bath sheet and roll in towel applying pressure to remove water from item to be soaked up in towel..lay item on fresh clean dry towel and block to size, meaning you lay out your item flat, smooth, and in proper shape...allow to dry..turn over on clean dry towel when needed. Wool sweaters can loose their shape easily so machine washing is a no no. As for coats..hand washing them can ruin them and their shape.
