What shirt was worn under the jacket M1941?
I try to set up an army of WWII American infantry uniform, and I get m1941 field jacket but I'm not sure this shirt was worn under the jacket. I read on a site that the Army Fatigue Shirt HBT jacket / summer ported to the m1941, but it seems that this jacket is a way of HBT heavy to be worn under it? I was wondering what shirt / shirt was worn under the m1941. Thank you to all WWII buffs: P
It is time someone asks a real question here other than the price of the mill "Hitler was bad?" or some other bullshit homework assignment. The 1941 (which replaced 1938) jacket was actually designed to be worn on the uniform standard of wool of the time. There were two standard shirts, wool, they were worn on a cotton T-shirt. One was a tunic button 4 (building a little heavier) used in cold climates (uniform set of cool climate for the torso: T-shirt, woolen tunic / no tie, vest immediately, and a wool coat long) the standard woolen shirt was used in warmer climates. The uniform herringbone twill (HBT) was less common question standard. The HBT was done originally designed to be worn on the uniform standard wool! (By mid 1942 they realized it was not the best course of action) Waste not, want not, so that the TBH was found to be better adapted to climates warm and tropical. If you have already studied pictures of the period, 10 men in uniform, there seemed to be at least 8 different (and allowed) to styles. So much for standardization and uniformity in uniforms, eh? Good question though. If only the world would care enough to research a point like this. Just curious, what patch division / theater you are going to the uniform as? If you are leaning the shirt to the Pacific standard HBT best represent the majority of staff of the U.S. military. European and most of the Arctic would tunic button 4. Have fun and good.
