Difference between a dressing and a ACE bandage?

an ace bandage is used to reduce swelling, add pressure and to keep the injury straight if it is on a limb, and it usually is.
A bandage is just that. You will have it medicated, (sometimes), covered with gauze,and then taped. The bandages need to be changed at least daily and may have packing in the actual wound if it is deep. The bandage catches the drainage from the packing and keeps other particals outside of the wound.
When using an ace bandage, icing is usually encouraged, but once again, it really depends on the injury or surgery. Sometimes, you will have both, the bandage and then the ace bandage like I did when I had knee surgery.
